“The Amazon Experience: Where Nature Meets Culture”
Amazon Experience – Culture, Nature & Cruise to the Ocean
The journey begins with three days in Manaus. The program includes the magnificent Amazon Theatre (Teatro Amazonas), the historic Adolpho Lisboa Market, the natural wonder of the “Meeting of the Waters,” as well as excursions into the rainforest.
Afterwards, we board a luxurious river cruise that takes us downstream to Santarém. From there, we make a side trip to Alter do Chão, an idyllic spot often referred to as the “Caribbean of the Amazon” thanks to its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
The journey continues to Marajó Island, where we first visit Afuá – a unique stilt town also known as the “Venice of the Amazon.” Travelers visiting in July have the chance to experience the vibrant Shrimp Festival (Festival do Camarão), with music, dance, and delicious shrimp specialties.
We then follow the coast of Marajó. After a stop in Breves, the ship winds its way through the narrow waterways known as Furos, offering spectacular jungle scenery. In Soure – famous for its beaches, iconic water buffalo, and traditional Marajoara ceramics – we also enjoy a stopover.
Before reaching Belém, we pause at Cotijuba Island – a tropical oasis perfect for relaxing by the beach. The journey concludes in the lively port city of Belém, with highlights such as the vast Ver-o-Peso Market, the Docas with their bars and restaurants, the colonial Old Town architecture, the elegant Theatro da Paz, and the lush Mangal das Garças Park.
Daniel Krattinger – Sailor, Adventurer, and Amazon Expert
I am a passionate Amazon specialist. With my own sailboat, I spent eight months navigating the world’s largest river – through endless currents, hidden igarapés, remote islands, and mysterious rainforest regions. I even experienced the legendary Pororoca wave, which crashes with immense force into the Amazon at the mouth near Ilha de Marajó.
But my journey of discovery started even earlier: I crossed the Andes in Peru by motorcycle, reaching Yurimaguas. From there, I traveled by boat deep into the Amazon – to Iquitos, onward to the tri-border area of Tabatinga/Leticia, where Peru, Brazil, and Colombia meet, and finally to Manaus. From Manaus, I continued to Santarém and the paradise-like Alter do Chão, with its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, often called the “Caribbean of the Amazon.” After that, I faced the legendary Transamazônica, 1,400 kilometers of pure challenge through rain, mud, and untamed wilderness.
Today, I am married to a woman from the Amazon region and return regularly. I have traveled the entire Amazon over more than 6,800 kilometers – from its origins in the Andes to its mighty mouth in the Atlantic, and beyond.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch – I will be delighted to design a tailor-made dream journey through the Amazon for you, whether for one week or two. I will take care of every detail: from river transfers and accommodations to tickets for the Amazon Theatre, exciting excursions, and much more.
Together, we will determine the ideal time of year to visit the Amazon, and I will recommend unique festivals and cultural highlights that will turn your journey into an unforgettable experience.
